SMALL BUSINESS PLAYBOOK
Lead generation for small businesses: a practical starting plan
Choose an audience, make a clear offer and qualify inquiries before buying more tools.
Lead generation starts with a specific customer problem and an offer that makes sense for that customer. A long contact list is not the same as a pipeline. Start with a small experiment you can review before spending more time or money.
Choose one audience and one problem
Write a sentence describing who you help, the problem and the outcome. For example: “We help independent clinics reduce missed appointment follow-ups.” Keep the wording specific enough that a reader can decide whether the offer fits. Do not promise results you cannot demonstrate.
Build a useful next step
Your landing page should explain the service, show relevant evidence and give a clear way to ask a question or request a quote. Ask only for the information needed to respond. A short form with an explanation of what happens next is often more useful than a complicated funnel.
Start with channels you can maintain
Referrals, relevant directories, educational content and direct conversations each require a different approach. Pick one or two. Record where inquiries came from so you can compare qualified conversations rather than impressions alone. Where outreach is appropriate, respect consent, local requirements and opt-outs.
Qualify before proposing
- Need: what is the prospect trying to change?
- Fit: can your service solve that problem?
- Timing: is there a real project window?
- Process: who evaluates the proposal and what do they need?
- Next action: what have both sides agreed to do?
Review the pipeline weekly
Track inquiries, qualified conversations, proposals and completed work. If many inquiries are unsuitable, improve targeting and the offer description. If proposals stall, review scope clarity and the agreed decision process. Do not assume more contact volume will solve every stage.
Use our follow-up planner for a simple next-action schedule. If you need a separate business calling workspace, review the Kandrex evaluation page. If your lead capture and CRM need to work together, CustomWebX custom CRM development is an implementation option.
